MY BIO
I’m a Mexican-American filmmaker, producer, and creative director. Working in Film + Television for 17 years and progressive content for 7 years, my experience is diverse and comprehensive.
I started out my career at the BBC in London making documentary content for the learning and interactive department. In that first job I was lucky – I traveled around the UK filming young people talking about their lives, challenges, and what inspires them to be creative. I found a passion – I wanted to be a conduit for personal storytelling. To be the bridge between a person’s experience and that experience being understood through the art of visual storytelling. It was and continues to be what drives me because I know how powerful it can be. Changemaking.
After returning to the US, I cut my teeth on a wide spectrum of film and television projects – I produced for big network shows like History Channel’s American Pickers, and Bravo’s Top Chef. I worked on films like Twilight as the assistant to the director, Catherine Hardewick. I script supervised independent feature films for directors like Cory MaCabee – projects that went onto festivals like Sundance and Berlin. I learned how to run production top to bottom on all kinds of projects, whether it was a crew of 4 or 140.
Then, in 2016, I joined the video team at the Hillary Clinton Campaign as their Supervising Producer. My role was specific – I was in charge of overseeing and creating content with a group of filmmakers each based in a state we were targeting. Our content was only supposed to be seen in the states they were specific to. But I found the authenticity of vision from diverse creators made for compelling content, and many of our digital videos ended up going national – with the campaign putting money into turning some of these local films into paid advertising. The stories we captured were about everyday people. Their struggles, hopes and stories.
I was back where I started. Making content with and for everyday people – sharing stories that could connect us and, maybe even, help us as collective humans.
2016 was … disappointing. But I was proud of the work my team did. And it set the course for a new part of my career. I transitioned into social justice documentaries and kept working on video content in the progressive space. I told powerful stories of renewal that tackled society’s biggest problems, series like Released (executive produced by Oprah, following people as they were released from long instances of incarceration and tried to build a new life), The Last Defense (executive produced by Viola Davis, this series highlighted the story of Julius Jones, a possibly innocent man on death row in Oklahoma), and The Circus on Showtime (a week in the madness of American politics).
In between my jobs on television series I continued to do work in the progressive space. I worked with clients such as Stand Up America, Everytown, Biden for President, Fellow Americans. At Fellow Americans, I served as Head of Video, creating campaigns for clients like Climate Power, Supermajority, NARAL, and Priorities. I continue my passion for impactful storytelling through my work with the production company Flies Collective. Serve on their film grant committee and managed their work highlighting innovative technologies with the Google Creative Lab. I have also enjoyed teaching as an adjunct professor at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in their Film & Television department.
I live in Brooklyn, New York with my husband. I look forward to working with you on your next endeavor in order to help bring the stories of individuals to the many and help create the change your organization is fighting for.
